Basel, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Two of the four new members of the UBS 12-member board are Americans: William Parrett, former CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Sally Bott, Group human resources director at BP (British Petroleum).
The bank came in for heavy criticism under former chairman Marcel Ospel for having too few people with strong financial experience. In addition to the Parrett and Bott, the board’s other new members are Rainer-Marc Frey, head of Horizon 21 and Bruno Gehrig, head of Swiss Life and a former vice-president of the Swiss National Bank. The four were approved by the 2,400 shareholders attending an Extraordinary General Meeting in Basel. Board Chairman Peter Kurer announced at the meeting that former Marcel Ospel, his predecessor, is receiving no farewell indemnity.
The bank’s shares rose on the positive news that the bank expects a small profit in the third quarter and a profitable 2009.
