Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Official figures were released Friday morning for Swiss health insurance premiums in 2009, and the Lake Geneva region has been spared the increases that are as high as 5% in much of central Switzerland.
Geneva, in fact, will see its premiums fall by 0.1%, the only canton to see a drop, but it remains the second most expensive Swiss canton, with premiums of CHF418.17 per person, on average. Only Basel City is higher, over CHF420. Premiums in Vaud will increase just slightly, but also remain high, at CHF374.96. By comparison, the canton with the greatest increase, Obwald with 6.7%, remains one of the least expensive, with an average premium of CHF246.96.
Health insurance companies must announce their 2009 by 31 October and people then have until 30 November to announce they are changing companies.
