Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Melamine, a potentially dangerous chemical found in some powdered milk products in China and linked to the illness of thousands and deaths of some children has been found in caramels and biscuits sold in Switzerland.

The Federal Office for Public Health, (FOPH) says the levels found are not dangerous for adult human consumption, and they only represent a problem if a child under one year of age eats more than one kilo of the contaminated food product per day. However, the FOPH added that impurities will not be tolerated and has withdrawn the products from the market.
