Lausanne, Switzerland (RSR, Fre) - The new M2 urban transport system in Lausanne, inaugurated 18 September but only partially opened, is expected to go into full swing 27 October or 2 November 2008.

RSR quotes sources close to the project as saying an announcement will be made Wednesday (22 October) afternoon confirming that the project can move ahead as planned. Engineers delayed the opening of the entire system to allow final in-operation tests and to ensure that there were not too many breakdowns or delays.

The M2 is fully automated and will carry 6,600 passengers an hour.
