logo_swiss_ski.pngSwitzerland (TSR, Fre) - The Swiss ski competition season was off to a good start this weekend, with top medals that should please Urs Lehmann, new president of Swiss-Ski, the national ski organization that oversees competitive skiing but also lessons and events for the public.

Lehmann, age 39 and a former world champion skier, took over as president in June 2008. In an interview with TSR television he says he plans to focus on getting sports back to centre stage in the organization. Lehmann doesn’t reject the direction his predecessor, a politician, took but he believes that at this point it will help Swiss skiers to have a former competitor in charge of the organization.

Lehmann notes that there is a significant change among younger people: ski clubs used to be very important but today younger skiers are more interested in events. Swiss-Ski needs to make some structural changes to adapt to this, he believes.
