Vaud, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Citizens in canton Vaud Wednesday received their ballots for a vote on smoking in closed public areas, to take place 30 November.
The proposed ban joins several other items on the ballot that include a vote on a new cantonal art museum in Lausanne and five federal popular votes shared with the rest of Switzerland. These include two that would create harsher drug laws and a much-debated one that would offer a flexible retirement age without financial penalty.
Voters will be considering similar ballots the same day in Fribourg and Valais. Neuchatel’s cantonal council voted 84-1 on 4 November to ban smoking in public areas there, and the new rules go into effect in April.
