Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - The Swiss foreign ministry, Micheline Calmy-Rey, said recent events such as the demolition of Palestinian houses violates international humanitarian law, and Switzerland is requesting that Israel stop its actions.

The Associated Press quotes an Israelian spokesperson in Bern saying the demolition of houses was done under a court order. Because Switzerland is the guardian of the 1949 Geneva Conventions it can call meetings if it believes treaty signatories are not following the rules; however, it does not have the power to enforce the treaty.
