Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Blue skies and sunshine to some cloudiness expected Sunday 4 January should keep Swiss roads reasonably clear despite heavy traffic as many travelers return from their holidays.
Very cold weather (-10C at 1,000 metres at 09:00 in Valais), with Geneva having a high -1C and in the north of the country highs of -2 to -4C means that drivers should watch for icy patches TSR maintains a useful map that shows the state of traffic on Swiss roads, with the option to look more closely at regions. The Swiss government’s alerts for truck drivers are a good way to stay up to date and TCS, the Swiss automobile club, also has current traffic information that shows peak travel times on a given day: 17:00-19:00 will be the worst today, with heavy traffic especially around Bern and the Vaud A9 turnoff to Bern, near Vevey, as well as at Goppenstein in Valais, which carries north-south car traffic via train.
