Geneva, Switzerland – A fun weekend activity for kids and adults in Geneva is to visit the Botanical Gardens, its exhibits, and the incredible carousel on its premises.
The Carrousel des fables was created as a tribute to the fables written by French poet, Jean de la Fontaine. The metal structure recreates many of the characters in the fables. A truly formidable mix of machinery and imagination.
The merry-go-round was built in 1999 by ©opyart a Geneva organization that provides training for unemployed adults. In fact, several trainees of the program participated as artists and artisans. Many of them found a new line of work after construction ended.
In addition to the carousel and the botanical exhibits, there is a small restaurant, an ice cream parlor, and a large playground on the esplanade.
Visiting the gardens is a great family experience. The setting is perfect for a picnic: the views of Lake Geneva and snow-capped Mont Blanc, and lots of green grass.
Another great feature is that entry to the Botanical Gardens is free.
Remember to leave the pooch home, as dogs are not allowed on the premises.
