ITU elects Hamadoun Touré as head for second time

Guadalajara, Mexico (GenevaLunch) – The member countries of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) meeting in Guadalajara, Mexico have elected Hamadoun Touré as the organization’s secretary-general to a second term, it was announced 8 October.

The Geneva-based agency for information and technology issues also elected Houlin Zhao to a second term as deputy secretary-general.

The organization’s priorities in the coming years will be broad-band access to the internet for poorer countries and cyber-security, Touré said.
