Lausanne’s streets bob with colourful farewell to school year

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – One of the finest old annual parades in Switzerland brightened the streets of Lausanne Wednesday 4 July, as the city’s primary school children waved goodbye to the school year. School classes, all 232 of them, wear themed costumes and march through the streets waving at proud parents, grandparents and friends, sealing the deal that now it’s truly time for a holiday! They’ve been doing it this way for over 150 years in Lausanne, calling it the Fête du bois.

This year’s theme was Taste, to mark Lausanne’s year as the “City of Taste 2012″. Sweet!
