Swiss Olympic medal hopes pinned on Federer

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The Olympic gold battle being played out in London between the US (18) and China (18) has left Switzerland in the dust, with no medals to date.

But Roger Federer is one of the final four for tennis and under knock-out rules there will be one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, so the Swiss will not come home empty-handed. Federer plays Juan Martín del Potro in the semi-finals while Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic battle in the other match. Federer has never won an Olympics singles title.

In other Olympics highlights, US swimmer Michael Phelps beat fellow American Ryan Lochte in the final of the 200m individual medley to win his 16th Olympic gold medal and the 20th Olympic medal of his career.
