Typhoon Haikui hits China flights grounded, 1.5 million people evacuated

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Typhoon Haikui has struck China, packing winds of up to 110 kph, prompting the evacuation of nearly two million people and grounding hundreds of flights to and from Shanghai and other cities.

Provincial authorities have evacuated 1.5 million people in preparation for the storm.

Railway authorities have canceled all passenger trains departing from and arriving to Hangzhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang province. In addition, more than 500 flights to and from Shanghai’s two airports have been cancelled.
