Foreigner in hospital after trying to catch moving train

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A 33-year-old foreigner who rushed to catch a train as it began to pull out of the station in Martigny, canton Valais, Sunday evening at 19:10 is in hospital after he was wedged and dragged two metres by the train before falling between the quai and the tracks.

Bystanders at the station gave him emergency first aid immediately and an ambulance took him to the hospital in Martigny.

He was transferred to the Sion hospital later in the evening.

Valais police have not provided his nationality.

A youth lost part of a leg following a similar accident earlier in August, in eastern Switzerland.
