Weekend highlights and weather

Luna's one-ton top, which will be filled with air for the 2012 outdoor concerts in St Prex, was gently lowered over the performance space last week

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The weather has shifted from hot and sunny to damp and cooler for Saturday 25 August, but the clouds will gradually disperse and temperatures will start climbing Sunday, reaching highs of 28C by mid-week.

This weekend’s regional highlights include the weekend opening of the St Prex Classics festival, which kicked off Thursday, your chance to try the extraordinary new cover over the outdoor performance area, called “Luna” and developed at EPFL. Note that this year the system is being tested with air under the dome; in 2013 Luna goes live with helium that will push it higher in the sky.

A St Prex Classics highlight this weekend is the concert by Roby Lakatos, extraordinary Hungarian violinist who mixes classic and Gypsy. Tickets, complete programme

Several thousand spectators are expected to flock to the Lausanne Blecherette area Saturday afternoon for flights by the Patrouille suisse  and the PC7- Team des Forces aériennes suisses. Police are warning of likely traffic jams along the A1-A9 autoroutes in the area.
