Belgian climber dies in fall near Saas-Fee

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A 52-year-old Belgian woman died when she fell into a crevasse Monday while coming down from the Allalinhorn near Saas-Fee in canton Valais. She was part of a trio of Belgian climbers who were aiming for the 4,037 metre summit; two of them, the victim and a man, turned around before the top, to retraced their path. At about 3,700m, for reasons that aren’t clear, the woman slipped and fell into the crevasse.

The two climbers were not roped together at that point, say Valais police.
