Geneva 12-year-old murder: family friend may be suspect

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A 12-year-old girl reported missing Friday evening 24 August was found dead at her home an hour after police issued an all-points bulletin, Geneva police said Sunday. The girl was last seen Thursday evening as she left a group of Drize school friends at one end of the bridge on the Route de Drize, to head home.

The Tribune de Geneve reports Monday morning that a close family friend, a man who had access to the family’s apartment, was interviewed as a suspect, by police Saturday. Police say initial investigations indicate the girl was murdered and with the case now in the hands of the public prosecutor no more details will be released. The newspaper says she was strangled, citing only “sources”, adding that an autopsy is being carried out to determine if she suffered any violence, including sexual abuse.
