BERN, SWITZERLAND – The reference interest rate for rents throughout Switzerland remains unchanged at 2.25 percent, Bern said Monday morning 3 September. Tenants whose rental agreements are based on the rate thus will not be able to ask for a reduction in rent, nor their landlords an increase, for the coming three months, although tenants with contracts not tied to it can theoretically ask for rent to be lowered, although other costs may be factored into any change in rent.
The rate is set in relation to the average of a range of mortgage rates.
