GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A small van carrying two cannisters of gas caught fire on the A1 autoroute on the Jura side of the road, Monday 3 September shortly after 16:00. The 23-year-old driver from Perroy pulled over onto the emergency lane when he noticed the start of the fire and promptly call the fire department to say he was carrying gas.
The autoroute was completely closed to traffic for 15 minutes to allow emergency vehicles to arrive and douse the flames. Traffic heading into Geneva was then allowed to use one lane until 17:15, when the road was re-opened.
There were no injuries, but the van was heavily damaged.
