GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Former police chief in Guatemala, Erwin Sperisen, who was arrested in Geneva Friday 31 August on the basis of Guatemalan evidence and recent investigations, will spend at least three months in Champ-Dollon prison, the Tribune de Geneve reports.
The Geneva Tribunal des mesures de contrainte Monday evening ordered the dual national (Swiss, Guatemala) held at the prison because of fears he will flee, according to the newspaper, which carries a lengthy story about the crimes, including several murders, of which the former police boss is accused.
He headed the Guatemalan police force from 2003 to 2007 and has been living in Geneva since he left the job under a cloud of scandal.
