Libyan video footage reported to show efforts to save Stevens

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – allAfrica reports from Tunis that video footage posted on the internet shows Libyans trying to save US Ambassador Chris Stevens, still alive, from a smoke-engulfed embassy building in Benghazi, Libya 11 September. The report says the video has been “authenticated” because his face is visible and the clothes are the same as in another image that appears to have been taken later and that is known to be Stevens. According to the Tunis report, the video appears to confirm reports that Stevens died of smoke inhalation.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in commenting on the embassy attack that led to the fire, underscored that “Libyans carried Chris’ body to the hospital, and they helped rescue and lead other Americans to safety.”
