Denmark limits sperm donors to 12 offspring

Sperm donor declared healthy found to have passed on gene for Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1)

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A man who has been a sperm donor in Denmark has passed on his gene for the debilitating condition Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1), which can cause severe handicaps that may include blindness and severe epilepsy. The man’s sperm is reported to have been shared with 14 clinics, reports UPI, and at least nine of the 43 children who received the gene have been diagnosed with the disorder.

The sperm bank responsible is coming under fire for not acting more quickly.
