LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – A prison guard has lost his job and a prison security audit is underway after six convicts escaped the Croisée prison in Orbe over the weekend. The six, from three separate cells, appear to have used only small dinner spoons and small rounded knives for meals to break out shortly after midnight early Sunday. They obscured older security cameras inside the prison that then failed to set off the alarm, but the outside alarm system worked and 20 patrol cars plus an army infrared-equipped helicopter rushed to the scene.
Four of the six were captured between 05:00 and 05:30 Sunday, but two remain at large.
The audit, according to Vaud officials, could extend to other prisons.
