LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – Drivers are alerted to plan ahead to avoid two areas with major sports events that will have an impact on traffic, and in the case of the car rally in canton Valais, to observe speed limits, with special police patrols checking frequently.
Valais car rally 25-27 October
The Rallye International du Valais runs 25 to 27 October. The complete programme, maps and road closures are listed on the rally site. The organizational centre is in Martigny, but the rally takes place in several areas throughout the canton, so if you are driving that way, be sure to check the schedule for closed roads. Count on heavy traffic on the A9 autoroute, particularly around Sion. The overall map:
Lausanne Marathon
The marathon has grown to 13,000 contestants this year, thanks to a number of events for the general public that are linked to the main race.
The larger crowd of competitors, with their fans, promises to pack out the lakefront and nearby areas in Lausanne. The marathon and police have published lists of roads that will be closed and maps for the area; be sure to check these and if you’re considering visiting the marathon, use public transport if possible.
The number of foreigners taking part in the overall events, which include some company and group runs and other activities, is 18 percent of contestants this year. For the marathon itself, 42 percent of the runners are foreign.
