World’s oldest person dies in US

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Jesse Cooper, age 116, died peacefully in her room at a nursing home, otherwise in good health, in Monroe, Georgia. She was reportedly declared the world’s oldest person by the Guinness World Records in January 2011. She had her hair done Tuesday morning 4 December, then began to have trouble breathing, her son Sidney said, and she died a few hours later.

Cooper was married once, for 39 years. As a young single woman she was active in promoting women’s right to vote in the US and she spent years teaching in Georgia, reports CNN.
