US birth rate falls to lowest ever and that means ….

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The US birth rate has been falling for 12 years and a Pew Report published 29 November shows it is at the lowest since the government began keeping figures. A particular feature is that  foreign-born women in the US are having fewer children.

Everyone seems to agree it’s significant, but how to read the statistics, what exactly they mean and whether the situation is healthy or in dire straits is a matter for heated debate, judging by US news media reports.
