LUGANO, SWITZERLAND – Climate and geology are getting off to an odd start in 2013 in Swizerland. The past three days have seen tremors north of Bulle, in canton Fribourg, 3.1, and the Val d’Anniviers in canton Valais, 2.8, neither of which caused damage. The night of 5 January was the warmest January night since records have been kept, starting in 1959, in canton Ticino. In Locarno-Monti the lowest temperature during the night was 14.5C and in Robbia, at 1,100 metres in the val Poschiavo it fell to only 11.1C.
Daytime temperatures were also high for the season, with 20.9C at 600 metres in Comprovasco.
A dry foehn wind from the north raised temperatures in the centre and south of the area and the Poschiavo valley.
