GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Snow followed by sun with temperatures remaining cold enough for the snow to stay: a good skiing weekend is promised by the national weather service, MeteoSwiss.
Expect snow to continue in Alpine areas until Friday afternoon, gradually clearing skies and sunshine for Saturday through Monday. Temperatures will range from lows of -4 to 1C on the plain, with highs of 2 to 4C and at altitude, 2000m will have highs of -7.
Jura resorts will benefit this weekend from heavy snow early in the week, with the storm that hit Geneva boosting the base to over 200cm in some areas.
The avalanche danger throughout the Alps is moderate (2/5).
One of the best ways to spend the weekend, if you’re not on the slopes, is to visit one of Switzerland’s numerous carnivals: complete list on our Geneva Living blog. It’s a great warm-up for the huge carnival event that takes over Basel next week, its famous Fasnacht.
Chinese main TV news network CCTV covered Lucerne’s festival (video clip) last weekend; Lucerne is the most popular Swiss destination for Chinese tourists.
Some of the interviews are in English. (Ed. note: the emperor leading the Chinese group, in yellow, is Liam Bates, Swiss, a well-known TV star in China)
