Looking for a name for that new baby? You’ll have to wait to dip into the new “Swiss baby names” application

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The Swiss Statistical Office learned to its chagrin Tuesday 12 March that many of us want to know more about first names – our own, those we’ve given our children and the one we might choose for our next babies.

Its new “Swiss first names” application is so popular that it crashed, the office notes on its web site, saying the service it is temporarily down.

The application lists the most popular names for each year, a service the office has provided for more than 25 years, but the new interactive tool also provides historical data on name choices back to 1902, among other features.
