GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A 28-year-old Vaud woman was killed when a car crashed late Saturday while overtaking another car on the A9 autoroute between Aigle and Villeneuve. The three other occupants of the car were injured, one of them critically. The 38-year-old driver, a woman from the region, lost control of the car for reasons the investigation is trying to determine.
The woman who died was the front-seat passenger and despite efforts to save her by cutting her out of the car, she died at the scene. The two women in the back seat, neither of whom were wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the car and one of them was critically injured.
Police are seeking witnesses; the car was a white VW Polo and the accident occurred at 23:00 Saturday. Anyone who may have passed the car is asked to contact police at +41 21 644 4444.
The autoroute was closed for most of the night following the accident.
