Young woman dies after Rougemont accident, A9 victim in serious condition

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – A young cyclist who was hit Wednesday 17 April  by a tractor on a blind ccurve near Rougemont, in canton Vaud, died in hospital Thursday. The young woman, whose age and residence were not given by police, was crushed by the left front corner of the all-terrain tractor, which was hugging its side of the road, on a blind and very narrow sharp bend on the route communale de la Saussa.

A 41-year-old Valais woman remains in critical condition following an accident on the A9 autoroute at Bex, near the Vaud-Valais border, at 17:00 Wednesday evening. She drove into the rear of the car ahead of her, which had slowed down for the roadworks in the St Maurice tunnels. The 52-year-old Belgian driver, who lives in canton Fribourg, suffered back injuries and was taken to hospital after his car spun around from the impact.

Police closed the autoroute in the direction of Valais following the accident.
