Some people drink wine while they watch football and if you happen to live in Switzerland, are tuning in to the game at home and looking for the right bottle, here is GenevaLunch’s recommendation: La Violette 2006, from the winery of the Association Viticole de Villeneuve at the top end of Lake Geneva.

It’s a lovely, light Pinot Noir and Gamay blend, a beautiful shade of light cherry colour in the glass, with notes of red fruits (des petits fruits in French), especially berries. It’s perfect with cold cuts and pasta, just the kind of quick meal that doesn’t interrupt the games too much.

For those who like a lighter wine in hot weather but don’t want to drink chilled white or rosé, this is an excellent option.
