GENEVA / LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND – The Selections winners for Geneva and Vaud are out, and what a fine collection of wines they are! 2010 was a good year, we keep hearing, and sampling some of the winning wines last week confirmed this for me. I’ll add my notes on some of the wines in the next couple of days.

The Selections are the official cantonal competitions; the winners go on to represent their cantons in international wine competitions.

Equally important for the producers: this is often their first chance to see how their wines hold up against other producers, since these competitions take place early in the summer, not long after bottling, but long enough for most of the wines to have settled down.

Geneva's Hotel School students selected Cave des Bosson's (Peissy) Riesling Sylvaner as their top pick

Geneva announced its winners Thursday 16 June, at its annual awards ceremony (see related news story).

Vaud announced its winners the next day, but it will hand out prizes at the Gstaad Open tennis tournament 26 July.

Without further ado, here are the winners from Geneva. Vaud will follow shortly, as a separate list.
