Bern, Switzerland (Le Temps, Fre) – Switzerland’s president, Micheline Calmy-Rey, has made it clear to Joseph Kabila, president of the DR Congo, that the Swiss want to see SFr8.3 million returned to the African nation quickly. The money, which was in accounts belonging to former dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, has been blocked in Switzerland.

The Swiss government is anxious to avoid a repeat of the situation with former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier’s money, which it must return to the Duvalier family in September because an agreement was not reached with the family within the legally proscribed timeframe.
