Lausanne, Switzerland (TSR, Fre) – Lausanne’s Metamorphose project, which lies at the heart of major urban and regional development projects, has moved a significant step forward with the city approving CHF10.5 million in credits for initial studies. The project has sparked much debate since details of the proposal were presented to the public in April 2007 but initial negative reactions appear to be dying down.
The money to undertake feasibility studies passed easily, but city politicians remain far from agreement on several details, notably a bypass for Ouchy. The new project provides for a sports and commercial complex near the lakefront and a major concern has been development in the Blecherette area, where the old Pontaise stadium will be torn down.
