Basel, Switzerland (RSR, Fre) – Novartis announced Thursday that it could cut 500 jobs in Switzerland and another 2,000 around the world in coming months as part of its "Forward" programme to streamline operations. Many of the jobs could go through retirement and natural attrition, the company noted. The pharmaceutical company, one of the largest in the world, announced in October that it would be reviewing all its operations with an eye to being ready for a major growth spurt in the world  pharmaceutical industry that it expects in the second half of 2008.
