Geneva, Switzerland (Tribune de Geneve,
Fre) – The manager for internal audits at the Unemployment Office in
Geneva is suspected of taking at least CHF780,000 out of the office
coffers, cantonal officials announced Thursday. They have pressed
charges and an investigation is underway, and the employee is currently
suspended without pay. It appears that the employee had two accomplices
and used a simple ruse, changing in the computer system the amounts of
benefits due once the accounts were closed. The real amount stolen will
likely not be known until the investigation is complete, reports the Tribune.
