Lausanne, Switzerland (24 Heures, Fre) – Details of the future development of the Lake Geneva region are becoming clearer, according to 24 Heures, which carries a lengthy article about pockets of population growth up to 2020. Canton Vaud has confirmed that in the next 12 years another 100,000 people are expected to boost the current population of 770,000. The development plan for the canton is pointing to the area west of Lausanne for the heaviest population growth, and the Palm regional plan expects to see 40,000 new people housed and 30,000 new jobs created between Morges and Lausanne, by 2020. The canton appears prepared to house the newcomers, reports 24 Heures, but it is less well-equipped in terms of transport, particularly in terms of rail lines, with a third track between Lausanne and Geneva remaining a "dream."
