Nyon, Vaud, Switzerland (20 Minutes, Fre) – A 21-year-old Vaud man has been given a two-year suspended sentence by a court in Nyon for killing a pedestrian with his car 5 August 2007 as the driver was coming home early in the morning from a disco in Lausanne. By a freak chance, his victim was a childhood friend who had just celebrated his 17th birthday. The driver had an alcohol level of 0.65% and was driving 100 kph in Préverenges. The family of the victim, who have known the driver for years, reportedly say they are disappointed that the court did not insist the driver serve prison time, but the court noted that among other points in his favour the young man, who has had therapy, has expressed strong regret.
