Bern, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – In two weeks the Swiss government will announce approved health care premiums for 2009, which are likely to rise by 2.5 to 3.5%, but the health insurance companies’ association, Santésuisse, says premiums must increase more rapidly. The group argues that if rising health care costs continue to outstrip the annual increase in premiums, currently the case, by 2010 the reserves of insurance companies will fall below the legal level. In the first months of 2008 reimbursable medical costs rose by 5% compared to the previous year. Hospital costs have increased at twice the rate of other health care costs and laboratory costs are also above the average.
