Sunrise in the Swiss Alps (Rhone valley in Valais), 22 September 2008: chilly even by seasonal standards
Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Monday 22 September is a Swiss holiday, the Jeûne Fédéral, and much of the country is closed for business, with the exception of traditionally Catholic cantons and Geneva (Ed. note: GenevaLunch is posting a limited amount of news). Autumn makes its official appearance at 17:45 Monday, with a weekend of chilly temperatures behind it and not much more warmth forecast for this week.
Temperatures in French-speaking Switzerland were well below mid-September averages, reaching only 12 C in most places, with the cold bise winds in Geneva adding to the chill.
