Bern, Switzerland (20 Minutes, Fre) – Swiss license plates will soon run out of new numbers and given the space available, with room for only six digits and the canton’s abbreviation above, a solution will have to be found.
The federal and cantonal governments, with automobile service authorities, will meet in 2009 to discuss options. Among the many possibilities: Adding a letter to the numbers or, like France which announced it would delete its départements in January 2009, deleting the canton.
