Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – When Geneva’s police go on strike, they do it gently. Their slowdown dating to last week continues in protest against the canton’s decision not to pay them a Euro 2008 football cup bonus for overtime.
The Tribune de Geneve reports today that police have handed out only three fines since the weekend, as one part of their protest, that the police presence at Cern Tuesday for the inauguration of the LHC was less than originally planned – and that staffing is down at the passport control window at Cointrin, with just one person. The impact on the public appears to be minimal and there is as yet no word from the canton on the impact on its revenues of fewer fines handed out.
Ed. note: on minimal impact – I flew out of Geneva at 6:30 this morning and there were two people checking passports and no line of waiting passengers.
