The Stockholm International Water Institute, presenting at the World Urban Forum meeting in Nanjing, China 3-6 November, predicts an additional 2 billion people will live in urban centers, most in the developing world by 2010, greatly increasing the demand for clean, accessible water supplies and putting pressure on the global water system. If not managed well, the institute warns, the world could have a water crisis on its hands.
