Lausanne, Switzerland (24 Heures, Fre) – The lack of hooliganism during the Euro 2008 football matches left what appears to be a sense of false calm, and over the weekend of 22-23 November football hooligans reappeared in small but armed numbers in Lausanne, Bern and Zurich.
A small group from Bern appeared in Lausanne, where they infiltrated Sion supporters, ready to fight them, and a Bern group also appeared n Biel/Bienne, according to 24 Heures, which carries a long article and editorial about how the phenomenon is not likely to disappear soon. Police were not expecting either incident. Another group appeared with clubs in hand at a Zurich cafe, ready to fight fans from Geneva.
The newspaper points out the most hooligans are fans of clubs rather than national teams, so the lack of problems during Euro 2008 should not surprise.
