In what some observers are calling a politically smart move, beleaguered Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, US, has named Roland Burris, 71, to fill the Senate seat formerly held by President-elect Barack Obama. Obama has joined other Democrats in calling for the governor to resign in the face of allegations that he tried to sell the Senate seat. Reuters
