Jura, France (GenevaLunch) – You don’t need to go very far from Geneva or break the bank to have an unforgettable overnight stay in the mountains.

Overnight in the Jura Mountains

Go to the Monts Jura site to see two video films of the Refuge de la Loge.

The Refuge is accessible on skis from the Les Asters piste at Crozet or on snow shoes and you will receive a very warm welcome from the hosts and at least a passing glance from one of the two resident cats.

Hot meals and hot wine, coffee and the wonderful “Cret de la Neige Myrtilles” dessert are available for skiers who take the detour to the right from the Asters slope. You can stay overnight in the dormitory (take a sleeping bag!), enjoy the fondue, and see the spectacular display of stars with no interference from Geneva atmospherics.

The dawn, seen from up there is stunning.

  1. GenevaLunch » Blog Archive » Weekly snow and winter sports roundup, 16 January 2009 Says:

[...] Conditions remain excellent in the Jurassian resorts. We have had a week of clear skies and cold temperatures. The snow is well packed but there is still plenty of it and the views, above the layer of cloud that has shrouded the Geneva basin, are unforgettable. A milder period is expected at the end of the weekend, with even the possibility of rain on Monday but there should be more snow later in the week. Our weekends are very busy but all the resorts are quiet during the week. Now is the time to take advantage of almost empty pistes, before the French February holidays. This week’s special recommendation is Pauline’s home cooking at the Refuge de la Loge, off to the right of the Asters piste at Crozet: see travel feature on getting above the fog. [...]
