Melbourne, Australia (GenevaLunch) – Roger Federer survived his fourth round  despite losing the first two sets to Tomas Berdych. The tall Czech overpowered Federer but the Swiss star dug deep and fought hard for every point as the Czech started to tire.

Federer eventually won in five sets, 4-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 6-2. Third seed Novak Djokovic beat Cypriot M Baghdatis 6-1 7-6 6-7 6-2.

In the women’s singles top seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia was thrashed by French 16th seed Marion Bartoli 6-1 6-4.
