Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – The results are in: a German firm will be in charge of the project to renovate the Centre William Rappard of the World Trade Organization (WTO) which, according to officials, will be “unobstrusive and respectful of the environment.”
In 2008 the WTO made a call for bids for the renovation of the centre. In total, 115 projects were presented. Seven were shortlisted.
The German company Wittfoht Architekten won the contract and will be in charge of the CHF130 million renovation project which includes the construction of an adjacent building to be completed by 2011.
The Swiss government pledged as a donation CHF70 million to the project, while loaning the WTO the remaining CHF60 million.
The original Villa Rappard, now a school, was built starting in 1785.
The project is part of a larger display of planned changes in the area until 9 March at the International Convention Center in Geneva.
