Sion, Valais, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) – Police in canton Valais have issued a series of reminders to gun owners of the new Swiss federal regulations covering arms, that went into effect 12 December 2009.

  • Certain arms now need to be registered, such as hunting guns that do not have a recent permit.
  • All illegal arms and weaponry, such as silencers, must be announced to the police by the end of June 2009.
  • Toy and game guns, for example paintball pistols and air rifles, that could be confused with real weapons, may be owned only by people over the age of 18 who have a commercial license, and they may not be carried in public.
  • Firearms may be used only in authorized shooting areas and owners who want to transport arms or sell them abroad must follow a set of rules.

Details are available from the federal government web site on the new law (Fre).
